The Municipality of Arkadion is located in the South East side of Zakynthos island. It was founded in 1999 based on “J. Kapodistrias” National Program and it is one of the six municipalities of Zakynthos. Its name comes from the season of Ottoman domination because the residents, in their majority were Arcadians that came from Peloponnese, but also Cretes which reached in Zakynthos afterwards the destruction of Crete from Turkish. Its name comes from the homonym municipality that had been created with Royal Decree in 1866. Its emblem is Hermes Ancient God via the words Municipality of Arkadion. Its total population amounts in about 4.830 residents, according to the last inventory. It is constituted by the municipal apartments of Planos (Tsilivi), Vanato, Aghios Kirikas, Kalipado, Sarakinado,Kipseli and Tragaki. Integral part of Zante island (Fior di Levante), the Municipality of Arkadion is characterized from its unique natural beauty of its landscapes. It allocates wonderful and wide beaches, that cover the half of its kilometric extent and it is pole of attraction of many visitors, particularly during the summer months.
